I have basketball and cross-trainer shoes, so how much are tennis shoes different and which should I use until I buy tennis shoes (which is hopefully soon)?
Thanks!
Completely agree with Jeff. Depending on your level, normal shoes, even basketball shoes, will be torn up on clay and hard courts.
Tennis shoes, (again, this depends on how tough you play, your level) have extra traction on the soles and padding on ther sides, to specifically increase your side to side moving ability. I remember when I purchased my first pair of tennis shoes. The difference was very evident. I was able to completely stop and dart to the other side of the court with ease. Obviously it all depends on the type, price, of the shoe, but usually a tennis shoe will show good improvement.
From the outer shell, everything is usualyl a very hard material, to allow for sliding and constant pressure back and forth from the movements, which allows a good pair of tennis shoes to last between 4-6 months.
Nike makes cheap brand shoes, which may suit you. Again, depending on your level, you may not find the nike 60 dollar tennis shoes to be much different than the Adidas, 135+ dollar tennis shoes, with exception to the fact that Nike shoe will lost maybe 2 months while a good pair can last about 5 months.
Go online and do some research into shoes, I would suggest checking out tenniswarehouse.com. They have a great selection and you can even see which ones the pros are wearing when they play! Good luck!

In adidas Tennis’ second “the game is the game” challenge Caroline Wozniacki, Jo Tsonga, Ana Ivanovic and Gilles Simon showed their skills in a “stické tennis” match head of the 2012 Australian Open. This British sport, invented in the late 19th century, is played in an enclosed court. This allows the ball to bounce on walls as well as the ground. The location, one of Melbourne’s coolest graffiti laneways, did not look 19th century at all.
We’d love to hear your feedback and ideas for future challenges on twitter http://www.twitter.com/adidastennis.
